Fully painted feature film about Van Gogh to screen at TMA Art House Film: Loving Vincent (2017, 95 minutes)

Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2 p.m., Little Theater

Vincent van Gogh remains one of the most mysterious figures in the art world. “Loving Vincent” takes a new look at Van Gogh’s final days through a fascinating new cinematic medium – the painted film. Showing at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020 in the Little Theater, “Loving Vincent” features more than 65,000 frames that have been hand-painted by professional oil painters from around the world.

“Loving Vincent” was first shot as a short live action film with actors, then hand-painted over frame-by-frame in oils. The film is written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, and produced by Poland’s BreakThru Films and UK’s Trademark. A full cast list and making-of features are available at www.lovingvincent.com.

“Van Gogh, despite his renown, remains something of an enigma,” said Scott Boberg, the Museum’s manager of public programs and audience engagement. “‘Loving Vincent’ explores what might have happened to the artist in his final days. By using actors to bring iconic Van Gogh paintings to life on screen, and then rendering each frame into oil paintings, the filmmakers are giving us a new look into Van Gogh’s death, and the impact it had on his friends and acquaintances, as well as his enduring artistic legacy.”

Tickets are $5 for Museum members, $7 for general admission, and $4 for students and military. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit toledomuseum.org or call (419) 255-8000 ext. 7448.
